It
would certainly sound very strange and odd to say that the very concept of love
is a euphemism for selfishness and self-centered approach. Expression of the
emotion is accompanied by possessiveness and selfishness. When someone
expresses his love for another person he/she becomes too possessive about that
person, and this emotion grows so intense that it can neither tolerate someone
else have the company of the loved one nor can afford to have distance with
him. The lover is driven by strong desires which stand for negation of the
individuality and separate personality of the loved one.
Whey
some relations driven by intense feelings of love at the beginning get aborted
at the end. There might be several other reasons behind the break up, yet the
issue of possessiveness is one the major reasons. When such emotions grow too
strong and passionate that it even deny the individuality and person of the loved
ones, things become tense and monotony comes into play. Thus the is the
monotony sharpen by the extreme sense of possessiveness which lead to
misunderstanding and uneasy feelings in relationship. David Herbert Lawerence,
a noted English novelist, who is widely
known for his treatment of the relationship between the opposite sexes, also
counts the over-possessiveness and negation of the individuality of the loved
ones, as one of the major hurdle and stumbling block in the way of rapport
between the loved ones.
As it
is a widely agreed fact that every picture has got facets similarly everything can be interpreted from various
critical angles. The concept of love which is generally associated with
positive connotations and is admired for its purity of purpose and sacrifices
made in it, too has it negative associations and interpretations. The major one being its over-possessiveness,
self-centeredness, selfishness, and negation of the individuality of the person
being loved. But the interesting fact is that attention is rarely or never paid
to such aspects of the concepts and is widely accepted and reckoned as something
positive and sacrifice driven.
The concept of love is having negative
impacts behind the sweet words it is composed of; it is indeed a euphemism for
selfishness and over-possessiveness but the positive connotations generally
associated always overshadow the negative aspects and rarely let the darker
sides make it appearance.
